On Testing Minor-Freeness in Bounded Degree Graphs With One-Sided Error

چکیده
We present a one-sided error property testing algorithm for H-minor freeness in boundeddegree graphs for any minor H that is a minor of the (k× 2)-grid (for any k ∈ N). This includes, for example, testing whether a graph is a cactus graph and testing minor-freeness for minors which are cycles with parallel chords. The query complexity of our algorithm in terms of the number of vertices in the graph, n, is Õ(n/ ). Czumaj et al. showed that cycle-freeness and Ck-minor freeness can be tested with query complexity Õ( √ n). In contrast to these results, we analyze the structure of the graph and show that either we can find a subgraph of sublinear size that includes the forbidden minor, H, or we can find a pair of disjoint subsets of vertices whose edge-cut is large, and such that the induced subgraph of each subset is connected. We then prove a combinatorial lemma which shows that the latter structure includes H as a minor. ∗The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) / ERC grant agreement n◦ 307696. †TU Dortmund, Dortmund, Germany, [email protected] ‡MPI for Informatics, Saarbrücken 66123, Germany, [email protected] §TU Dortmund, Dortmund, Germany, [email protected] ¶Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain, [email protected] ar X iv :1 70 7. 06 12 6v 2 [ cs .D S] 2 0 Ju l 2 01 7

Finding Cycles and Trees in Sublinear Time
We present sublinear-time (randomized) algorithms for finding simple cycles of length at least k ≥ 3 and tree-minors in bounded-degree graphs. The complexity of these algorithms is related to the distance of the graph from being Ck-minor free (resp., free from having the corresponding tree-minor). In particular, if the graph is Ω(1)-far from being cycle-free (i.e., a constant fraction of the ed...
متن کاملTesting cycle-freeness: Finding a certificate
We deal with the problem of designing one-sided error property testers for cycle-freeness in bounded degree graphs. Such a property tester always accepts forests. Furthermore, when it rejects an input, it provides a short cycle as a certificate. The problem of testing cycle-freeness in this model was first considered by Goldreich and Ron [13]. They give a constant time tester with two-sided err...

متن کاملTesting perfection is hard
A graph property P is strongly testable if for every fixed > 0 there is a one-sided -tester for P whose query complexity is bounded by a function of . In classifying the strongly testable graph properties, the first author and Shapira showed that any hereditary graph property (such as P the family of perfect graphs) is strongly testable. A property is easily testable if it is strongly testable ...
متن کاملOn Symmetric Structures in Graphs and Applications in Property Testing
In this work we study different properties of graph symmetry. The first, is vertex transitivity, which informally says, that each vertex has the same global view of the graph. We give a simple one-sided error testing algorithm for vertex transitivity in the dense-graphs model, whose query complexity is Θ̃(n). In addition, we prove that any one-sided error testing algorithm for vertex transitivit...
